Natural Face Creams: The Safer Choice
    Posted in Creams

Wrinkles are probably the most dreaded sign of ageing.  When people notice the lines on their faces, they begin to realize that:  (1) time has passed and they are ageing, or (2) they have been negligent about taking good care of their skin.  The good news however, is that there is a way to reduce wrinkles without spending a lot of money.  Natural face creams work especially on sensitive skin.  These creams come in two types, manufactured products and homemade remedies.  Facial masks that hydrate and exfoliate are better homemade because you can be sure that the ingredients are fresh and therefore would not cause any irritation.

Natural face creams are made of various ingredients such as fruits, vitamins and minerals.  Vitamins work to create younger-looking skin.  Vitamin E have antioxidant properties protecting the skin from oxygen free radicals that cause ageing; vitamin A is responsible for skin changes, vitamin B2 protects the skin from becoming dry, vitamin C hydrates the skin while the lack of vitamin B3 leads to skin diseases and swelling.  Although it is good to use natural creams that contain these elements, it is better to obtain them by eating a diet that is rich in vitamins.

Bananas, cucumber, honey, chamomile, and olive oil are good remedies for dry skin.  Natural face creams that contain these ingredients normalize the hydrating level of the skin while their acid content makes it smooth.

Seaweed extracts and Alpha Hydroxy Acids have antioxidant properties and are often used as ingredients in natural face creams.  Alpha Hydroxy Acids are a group of substances taken from fruit acids or other products such as lactic acid from milk, malic acid from apples, citric from lemons, and glycolic acid from beet.  These acids are used in high concentrations in exfoliating products, and low in hydrating creams.  Aside from these, Alpha Hydroxy Acids are also used in anti-acne and anti-wrinkle products however they are known to increase the skin’s sensibility to the suns radiation.

Ascorbic Acid is vitamin C and is used as an antioxidant and skin regenerator.  It is used in natural face creams to remove spots and wrinkles, correct the skin tone and synthesize the collagen.

Grape seed extracts and beeswax are used as main ingredients for natural creams.  They work by building a barrier between our skin and harmful substances in the environment.

There are now a variety of natural cosmetics available in the market.  These have been formulated to complement the effect of natural face creams.  Unlike normal chemically-based cosmetics, they are not irritating and harsh on the skin.

If you decide to mix your own natural face creams, oils or lotions, use only fresh ingredients and make sure to store them properly.  Mixes that include milk, fruits or vegetables must be stored in the refrigerator and should not be used for more than 4-5 days while those which contain water and different plants can be used for 1-2 months as long as they are stored properly.

Natural face creams can sometimes be a better option than expensive “revolutionary” face creams.  They contain ingredients that are not harmful to the body.  These creams are mild making them ideal for people with sensitive skin and those with dermatological problems.
