In spite of the great advances in technology, science and medicine man has never really found a way to delay or stop the ageing process altogether. From time immemorial, man has been fascinated with immortality. In myths and literature, characters who live forever or are perennially young are divinized. This quest for immortality is universal although modern man seems to be more interested in discovering the fountain of youth rather than conquering death.
Scientists have discovered various remedies and means to arrest ageing. There are skin products, medicines and supplements that promise a longer and better life. What people need to understand however is that although these products can help, the best way to slow down ageing is to have a healthy lifestyle. The ageing effect of being sedentary, eating a poor diet and having all sorts of bad habits and vices cannot be sufficiently reversed by any laboratory formulated product. In other words, there is no better way to fight the ageing process than by eating right, exercising, taking care of our skin, and observing correct hygiene.
Our chronological age doesn’t matter that much if we feel and think young. People tend to overlook the strong effect of the psychological aspect of our lives on how we age. Feeling depressed because of your age would only make matters worse so try to avoid it.
Being able to reverse the ageing process does not equate to defeating death. We are all meant to die so trying to discover the key to immortality is pointless really. However, the work that scientists put into finding ways to retard the ageing process is highly laudable. Arresting the ageing process may enable us to extend our lifespan by 25% but this also means that each stage in human development will also be stretched. The age of puberty for example, would only begin at age 20 with the succeeding developmental stagesaccordingly stretching in duration. The problem here is that a gap might appear between physical and mental development. It is possible that the break between these two to be irrecoverable.
Why is ageing, which is a normal process, considered by many to be some kind of disease that needs to be prevented and treated? Why do we hate the thought of getting old? There are many people who live to be a hundred and many who desire to go even beyond that. Ageing is certainly a philosophical matter and some people have very strong opposing views about it.
One thing’s for sure and that is anti-ageing has become an industry and many people are making loads of money selling services and products to meet this need. People are willing to spend money just to recapture their youthful looks.
As far as I am concerned, it is best to just let nature take its course because it has been proven time and again that interfering with nature only results in dire consequences. Just take care of yourself the best you can and work on having a positive mindset. Don’t count the years. What is more important is that you stay productive and happy and your face will reflect your positive outlook making you look younger than any product can.
